We’re proud to announce that our founder, Dr. Ronna Fisher Au.D, has just been named Winner of the 13th Audiology Service Award by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The DHS treats over 2,700 deaf and hearing impaired individuals every year. In the process the agency deals with hundreds of audiologists and other hearing specialists making this award very special to us. Dr. Fisher received the Audiology Service Award for both for the quality of care she’s given DHS patients and for her lifetime contributions to audiology. The award citation notes Ronna became an audiologist after seeing how the problem devastated her father’s life. The judges also cited the Fisher Foundation For Hearing Health Care which educates the public about the need for yearly hearing exams and distributes free hearing aids to those in need.
“I have been an advocate and supporter of the DRS program since I opened Hearing Health Center in 1984. When I learned that their mission was to provide hearing aids to people so they could find jobs and go back to school and become productive, I was amazed. I wanted to be a part of changing the course of someone’s life; I wanted to help someone reach their full potential and be successful – even when they never dreamt it was possible.”, says Dr. Fisher.
“It has been a most gratifying and worthwhile experience. The real reward however, is when a DRS patient comes back to me several years later to purchase their next set of hearing aids. Because now…they can!”
