Ear Doctor in Park Ridge and Norwood Park | Online Hearing Test

Hearing Health Center (HHC) in Park Ridge was founded in 1984 by Dr. Ronna Fisher, Au.D. Dr. Fisher became an audiologist (sometimes referred to as an ear doctor) in Norwood Park and Park Ridge because of her experience watching her father struggle with an increased difficulty hearing and communicating. “My father’s hearing didn’t just affect him; it affected our entire family. He missed so much of my life, and it didn’t have to be that way.”

The practice has grown to become Park Ridge’s premier hearing facility. The ear doctors (audiologists) at Hearing Health Center are renowned for their skill in comprehensive hearing assessments, online hearing tests, diagnosing and treatment of balance and vestibular disorders, and prescribing and individually tuning every type of hearing aid and personal communication device available.

Hearing Health Center Park Ridge is located on the Resurrection Hospital campus and serves Park Ridge, Norridge, Edison Park, Norwood Park, Jefferson Park, Niles, Des Plaines, and the surrounding Chicagoland areas.

Free Baseline Hearing Checkups

hearing health center

Most people haven’t had their hearing checked since grade school. It is rarely included in annual physicals and people just don’t think to get it tested.

Yet every study in the last 10 years proves the direct link between hearing ability, the brain and cognitive function, making your hearing a vital part of every physician exam.

That’s why Hearing Health Center is committed to making sure that everyone in the community, over 50 years old, has a baseline hearing test.

If you haven’t had your hearing tested, now is your chance. Make an appointment for a free baseline hearing checkup at any of our five locations

Ear Wax Removal

hearing health center

All ears have wax. A little wax is good. It keeps your ears moist, repels bugs, and prevents infections from bacteria and germs. Some ears produce too much wax. It builds up and blocks your hearing ability.

Removing earwax is not a do-it-yourself project. Q-tips usually just push the wax deeper inside your ear making it even harder to remove. Never, ever try ear candling. Burns are all too common and the wax you see is from the candle, not your ears. In addition, even over-the-counter earwax removal kits are a problem. How do you know if it worked? You can’t see what you’re doing down there.

There are different kinds of earwax. Some wax is soft and gooey, some hard and impacted, some flaky and loose.

Moreover, there are different methods to remove earwax:  suction, curettes, flushing, and more. The audiologists at Hearing Health Center are expertly trained in every method, utilize the best one for the type and amount of earwax, and the one most gentle for your comfort.

Diagnostic Hearing Testing

There are different types of hearing problems and many causes of hearing loss. Identifying the type, severity, and cause of the hearing problem is critical in determining the next steps as well as the treatment options available.

Doctors of Audiology spend four years of intensive study in the anatomy and physiology of the ear and brain to accurately diagnose and correctly treat hearing and cognitive impairments.

Balance & Dizziness Evaluation

Balance disorders are very difficult to diagnose and treat because there is often more than one underlying cause. Determining the cause of the problem is essential for finding the right treatment plan.

Treatment plans are designed for each individual patient based on history, diagnostic findings, and functional limitations caused by the balance disorder:

  • Balance re-training – Exercises to improve coordination of muscle responses in various situations.
  • Habituation – Exercises to resolve the brain/inner ear conflict and help the brain adapt,
  • Visual/Motor Training – Exercises to strengthen and stabilize gaze and eye/head coordination.
  • Eply Maneuver – Head and neck positional changes, performed by the doctor, to reinsert the displaced ear crystals causing dizziness.

Tinnitus Consultations & Treatment

Buzzing, hissing, ringing, and other unwanted sounds in your head can be maddening and even disabling. They can interfere with your work, social life, sleep, and peace of mind.

There are many causes of tinnitus and different types of solutions and treatment plans available.

  • High frequency hearing aids and personal sound devices
  • Tinnitus maskers
  • Sound therapy
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)therapy
  • Tinnitus re-training
